The Best Places to see Panoramic Views in Madrid

I always say that to understand cities better, you have to see them from up high; know how their streets are organized, how the people move, how fast the cars go, or any other details that catch your eye. Quintín Cabrera once said, “cities are books that are read with our feet”, and I can’t find a better way to discover a city that isn’t simply wandering through every one of its nooks and crannies. The list I have made for you includes my favorite spots to see Madrid from above. Once up there, the mind starts to travel for us.
Roof of the Círculo de Bellas Artes.
This was the place where I first saw Madrid from above and that’s why I have a special place for it in my heart. There is a restaurant there now, and it’s the best excuse to go up just at sundown to have a drink and to let your eyes get lost looking towards the Gran Vía or at the infinite rooftops of the city. The terrace is overseen by Minerva, a sculpture made by Juan Luis Vassallo. It has a 360-degree view.
Entrance: €5 from Monday to Sunday. Open from 9h to 21h.
Moncloa Lighthouse.
The old lighthouse of Madrid is now a beautiful lookout point from which you can appreciate the city in full. It’s 110 meters high and you use a panoramic elevator to go up. The place is indoors, it has a 360-degree view and some texts explaining what you’re looking at and how far away it is. If the day is very clear, you can even see as far as the San Lorenzo del Escorial.
Entrance: €4 from Tuesday to Sunday. Open from 9.30h to 20h.
Seven Tits Park.
Its real name is Tío Pío’s Hill Park, but it’s much better known as the Seven Tits because of the seven hills there that allow you to see Madrid and the mountain from a different point of view. It’s an open setting, where people now gather to watch the sun set. Still, it’s not that well-known because it’s far from the center of the city.
Access is free 24 hours a day.
Terrace of the Riu Palace Hotel.
Even though there are many terraces in Gran Vía with great ambience and offering beautiful sights of Madrid, the terrace in the Riu Palace Hotel that’s facing Plaza España is one of the best. It’s 117 meters high and has a 360-degree view; it also has a see-through bridge that you can use to walk to the other side of the city while looking down upon it. It also has a bar that promises a good time. It has everything it needs to be perfect.
Entrance: €5 from Monday to Sunday, from 11h to 18h and €10 from 18h to 00h.
Terrace of the English Court of Callao.
It’s one of the most visited places thanks to its easy access, but it undoubtedly gives a nice view of the Gran Vía and the Capitol building (along with the Schweppes neon ad), as well as a different perspective of the Madrid rooftops. Additionally, it’s a nice place to have something to eat or drink while you enjoy the city. It’s on the 9th floor of the English Court stores, in Callao.
Access is free from 10h to 00h, everyday.
From a cable car.
As you travel almost 2.5 km in 11 minutes towards the Casa de Campo (country house), Madrid looks beautiful, open, serene. The views of the Palacio Real are unbeatable and what’s more, it’s nice to feel the city from inside one of the cable cars of that old cableway. There’s nothing like seeing Madrid on the move.
Entrance: €6 round trip, from Monday to Sunday. Open from 12h to 19h.
Almudena Cathedral.
Even though it’s right at the center of Madrid, not many people know that one of the domes has a terrace with an incredible view of the city. It’s 73 meters up and has a 360-degree view of Madrid that always knows how to smile back at you. You get a different experience with spectacular views. It’s not everyday that you go to a dome in a cathedral to watch the city go by.
Entrance: €6 from Monday to Sunday, open from 9h to 20h.
Viewpoint of the Cibeles Palace.
Just arriving and entering this building is already a beautiful walk. You can go up to the terrace and get a gorgeous view of the fountain of the Cibeles goddess or of the Bank of Spain, but our sights always go beyond that.
Entrance: €3 from Tuesday to Sunday, open from 10.30h to 13h & from 16h to 19h.

Los mejores sitios para ver Madrid desde las alturas

Siempre digo que para entender mejor las ciudades, hay que verlas desde arriba. Saber cómo se configuran sus calles, cómo se va moviendo la gente, qué tan rápido van los autos o cualquier otro detalle que llame nuestra atención. Ya lo dijo Quintín Cabrera, que “las ciudades son libros que se leen con los pies” y no encuentro una mejor manera de recorrer una ciudad que no sea caminando sin orden todos sus recovecos. La lista que les dejo tiene mis lugares favoritos para ver a Madrid desde las alturas. Una vez ahí, la mente comienza a viajar por nosotros.
Azotea del Círculo de Bellas Artes.
Este fue el lugar desde el que vi por primera vez Madrid desde las alturas y por eso le tengo un cariño especial. Ahora hay un restaurante y es la mejor excusa para subir justo al atardecer a tomar algo y dejar que la vista se nos pierda hacia Gran Vía o los tejados infinitos de la ciudad. La terraza está escoltada por Minerva, una escultura de Juan Luis Vassallo. La vista es 360.
Entrada: 5€ de lunes a domingo. De 9h a 21h.
Faro de Moncloa.
La antigua torre de iluminación de Madrid, es ahora un bellísimo mirador desde el que se puede apreciar la ciudad a plenitud. Son 110 metros de altura y se sube en un ascensor panorámico. El sitio es cerrado, se tiene una vista 360 y textos que explican qué es lo que estamos viendo y a qué distancia. Si el día está muy despejado se puede ver hasta San Lorenzo del Escorial.
Entrada: 4€ de martes a domingo. De 9.30h a 20h.
Parque de las Siete Tetas.
Su nombre real es Parque del Cerro del Tío Pío, pero es mucho más conocido como Siete Tetas, por las siete colinas que tiene y que permiten ver a Madrid y la sierra desde otra óptica. Un ambiente al aire libre, donde ahora se reúne la gente a ver la caída del sol. Aun así, sigue siendo poco conocido por estar alejado del centro de la ciudad.
El acceso es libre las 24 horas del día.
Terraza del hotel Riu Palace.
Aunque hay muchas terrazas en Gran Vía, con un gran ambiente y que nos dejan hermosas vistas de Madrid; la del hotel Riu Palace frente a Plaza España es una de las mejores. Son 117 metros de altura y una vista 360; además de un puente transparente que permite ir de un lado a otro con la ciudad a los pies y un bar que asegura ratos amenos. Tiene todo para ser perfecta.
Entrada: 5€ de lunes a domingo, de 11h a 18h y 10€ de 18h a 00h.
Terraza del Corte Inglés de Callao.
Es uno de los lugares más visitados por su fácil acceso, pero que sin duda regala una linda visión de Gran Vía y el edificio Capitol (con el anuncio de neón de Schweppes), además de una visión distinta de los tejados de Madrid. Además, el sitio es lindo para quedarse tomando o comiendo algo mientras se disfruta de la ciudad. Queda en el 9no piso de las tiendas Corte Inglés, en Callao.
El acceso es libre de 10h a 00h, todos los días.
Desde el teleférico.
Mientras recorres casi 2.5 km en 11 minutos hacia Casa de Campo, Madrid se deja ver hermosa, amplia, serena. Las vistas del Palacio Real son inmejorables y además, es una manera linda de sentir la ciudad desde una de las cabinas de ese teleférico antiguo. Nada como ver a Madrid en movimiento.
Entrada: 6€ ida y vuelta, de lunes a domingo. De 12h a 19h.
Catedral de la Almudena.
Aunque está en pleno centro de Madrid, no es muy sabido que una de sus cúpulas tiene una terraza con vistas increíbles de la ciudad. Se levanta a 73 metros de altura y nos da una visión 360 de una Madrid que siempre sabe sonreír. Se pasa un rato distinto, con vistas espectaculares. Además, no todos los días se sube a la cúpula de una iglesia a ver la ciudad pasar.
Entrada: 6€ de lunes a domingo, de 9h a 20h.
Mirador del Palacio de Cibeles.
Ya entrar a este edificio es un paseo hermoso. Se puede subir a la terraza y tener hermosas vistas de la fuente de la diosa Cibeles o el edificio Banco España. Aunque la vista siempre va más allá.
Entrada: 3€ de martes a domingo; de 10.30h a 13h y de 16h a 19h.
